Who We Are

Hello all!
We are Celia and Rosie, two food lovin’ gals who have decided to create a blog on all the wholesome, delicious, simple foods that can be grown, raised, foraged, cooked, baked, fermented, and of course, eaten throughout the seasons. We will also be adding some random gardening, travel, and handy-to-know tips :)

Why we are where we are: We both had some free time in our lives, so we decided to take a little road trip across the country. To learn about farming, as well as to get to know local people where we were, we wwoofed, help-xed, and couch surfed along the way. We soon realized that we wanted to stop moving all the time and spend the whole growing season in one place, so we signed up for a six month internship at a farm in the mountains of North Carolina. And here we are! Staying with the sweetest couple, who farm their land for food self-sufficiency instead of the market.

What we do here: We spend our time working in the vegetable garden, taking care of the animals, and doing other chores necessary for country living. We have also been given the very very exciting task of supplying our hosts with fresh baked bread! So so exciting :) And, of course, we spend a lot of our free time in the kitchen cooking away! (Um, we don’t know a lot of people here yet…)

The journey here: We started out in our homeland of Mendocino County, California, and, like all sane people starting their travels in the winter, headed south (maybe not so sane to start a trip in winter to begin with, but it worked out fine for us). We drove south through Cali in our faithful VW Golf, Burt, and into Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee (Celia did a little jaunt down to Florida here) and finally, North Carolina!
If you want to hear more about our travels, or want some advice on where to go/not to go, tough luck. No just kidding. Go to our Oh The Places You’ll Go… page. And we’ll be adding more soon!

Supplies for our cooking adventures: a small kitchen, well stocked with cooking tools and ingredients, a garden to grow food, and a small local co-op.

Blogging tools: Nothing but a little i-phone and our handy brains. No joke, were doing this all on an i-phone, so sorry for any weird formatting etc ;)

So yay! Learn what you can from us!
mmmm food…

Hi girls-how exciting to hear about all of your farming and food projects. This is getting me inspired to make sauerkraut and Kombucha again. The mountains look so beautiful!! Leora wants to tell you that Lukey killed a cow the other day ; he did it in a Jewish way. Sad. Have a great day, love, your family.
